It’s all a matter of perspective.

Calvin and Hobbes definitely takes place in the same world as Lio.

Some guy piloting a traffic helicopter is gonna get the shock of his life …

Incidentally, look at the size of the lot that house sits on! It’s freaking enormous! Either Calvin’s dad is a VERY successful patent attorney, or Calvin’s mom is an heiress of some sort.

    A Parable, by Hobbes

There were two little boys who attended nursery school every day. The first little boy enjoyed playing with the other children and spent his time helping them build towers out of blocks. The second little boy only liked to crack jokes, and he only wanted the other children to crack jokes. So he wouldn’t help the other children build towers. Instead, he spent his time trying to kick over the towers that the first little boy was helping them to build.

But, to his surprise, every time the second little boy tried to kick over one of the towers, he would find that the child who was being helped by the first little boy would turn against the second little boy. And even more to his surprise, he would find that his actions had no effect on the first little boy. He simply couldn’t understand it.

So the second little boy thought to himself, “I must find a way to get him to stop helping the other children build towers. I will try to kick over every single tower that he builds.” But when the second little boy began to do this, again to his surprise, he discovered that this only made even more children dislike him. And, even worse, it made the first little boy even more determined to build towers for the other children.

Then the second little boy said, “I will try just ignoring him when he builds towers.” But he soon found that, for some reason, he couldn’t ignore him.

Next, the second little boy said, “I am leaving this nursery school. I will no longer be here with him or with the other children.” But he soon found that he had no audience when he cracked his jokes, so he couldn’t stay away.

Unable to think of any other solution, the second little boy returned to his behavior of trying to kick over the towers that the first little boy was helping to build.

Valentine’s Day arrived, and the little children brought valentines to nursery school for their friends. At the end of the day, each child opened their box of valentines. To his surprise, the second little boy, who had been trying to kick over the towers of blocks, discovered that he had received a valentine from every single child in the school!

Then the second little boy watched the first little boy, who had been helping the other children to build towers of blocks, open his box of valentines. It was empty! The second little boy was delighted. He said to himself, “now he will realize that he is wasting his time, and he will stop helping the other children to build towers.”

The second little boy took his full box of valentines home, sat down, and happily began to read them. But as he looked at the envelopes more closely, he suddenly discovered that only one of the valentines was addressed to him! He quickly opened it, and he discovered that it was from the first little boy! It said, “I care about every child in this nursery school, and that includes you. I want to be your friend. So I am giving you every valentine that I received today.”

Or it’s a cheap area. Much of the midwest is really inexpensive.
