   A nuclear explosion vaporizes everything at ground zero, right? How about consolidating all the radioactive waste in 1 place, and have 1 underground explosion every 10 years or so, to destroy all the rest of it? Sounds like a way to minimize the amount of waste.

   mikew: Unfortunately, vaporizing doesn’t affect radioactivity; vaporize the waste and you just get radioactive vapour (aka “fallout”).
