My dad used to do this when I was little. When I was five my mom, dad, and I were at a buffet, and I looked up and asked why they had a light over each table. He simply replied that they made the food go bad more quickly, so people had to go and get more. I said ‘oh!’ and Mom just gave him an evil glance. Ironically my dad’s name was Calvin

They use physics. I was taking a physics class in High School when this was first published. I decided to figure the answer and guess what it was a question on the test.

My dad also does this. The only problem is that its hard to tell whether he is serious or not.

Sort of…they actually use applied physics – as in civil engineers do the math, apply the right mechanics of materials principles, then they design a bridge to hold a certain weight limit – then post that on a sign. :)
