Is the perspective a bit off in frame 3, or is Cliff just huge?

The rocks made by the military industrial complex are gold plated.

Actually, I’ve read science fiction stories where hurling rocks… usually large asteroids, is actually a viable tactic.
In Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers in the US) they incorporated asteroids into their deflector screen.

There was a Batman animated series episode where The Joker, the Penguin, Catwoman, and Killer Croc all talked about the ways they ALMOST got The Batman. Croc finally took his turn: “I THREW A ROCK AT HIM!” Several seconds of silence, then The Joker says, “Okay, then…” Croc interrupts with “it was a big rock!” Classic.

Give a species a relativistic rock and they’ll destroy a planet today. Teach them how to do the math and they’ll destroy planets forever.

The first such yarn I recall was Heinlein’s “The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress,” where the moon colony had a mass driver for flinging containers of cargo down to earth. When they declared independence, they modified the driver to throw big rocks on a somewhat different course (straight down vs. glancing into the atmosphere). The folks back on earth gave in after a sustained bombardment of moon rocks turned Cheyenne Mountain (home of NORAD) into a smoking crater.

Pam, you’re missing the point: this isn’t just any rock, this is the 3MQX-500 Tactical Military Space Rock, made to the tightest specifications of the most costly stone aggregates; only $37 million apiece (plus delivery).

I was thinking more of Footfall, by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, where the aliens flatten India with a massive asteroid.
Haven’t read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress… have to give it a look sometime.
Heinlein used a similar concept in Starship Troopers.
