    I’ll confess to being a bit slow on the uptake, but once it clicked, that’s a good one!

    @Mark

    Guess I’m slower on the uptake, let me in on it…

    Some dogs could use a box of “my best shoes helper”.

    I thought a dog was a homework helper.

    Wow, how things change. For a long time the-dog-ate-my-homework was a whole separate genre of cartoons. As were the two-people-marooned-on-a-desert-island cartoons.

    I always thought that excuse was just some lame thing some kid with no imagination came up with, but thank you for opening my eyes to the truth!

    Two people (and their dog) are marooned on a desert island. A crate comes floating in on the tide, labeled “Desert Island Helper”……….

    Silly me, I forgot to add: “And the dog eats the instructions!”

    @Godfreydaniel

    You are probably into cartoons as much as anybody. Do you have the (formerly) complete New Yorker cartoon collection on disks? A few years ago it was $20 with a heavy book. Very strange to see cartoons about the Scopes “Monkey Trial” and cartoons from the Depression with stereotypical portrayals of flappers and plutocrats. And about the newly built Empire State Building.
