    Why does my friend, who is a disabled vet, have to drive 4 hours round trip to get an MRI? Why can’t he get it at the new VA clinic in the town where he lives?

    @Overtaxed

    VA health care is socialism.

    I like the way Bob draws Obama; it’s like how Don Martin would have drawn him!

    The VA is what I point to when I argue that partisan politics is negatively affecting peoples lives. Inflation and an increasing number of veterans needing care requires an increasing budget to accommodate them.

    U.S. Senate Republicans block veterans’ health bill on budget worry

    We don’t need a preview of the ACA. We’ve already seen blatant partisan politics come into play with the ACA, just as partisan politics did with the VA.

    The VA is much better than private insurance, by every measurement from cost to health outcomes, especially since those who qualify use a lot of health care. The scandal is horrible, and there are bad patches, but it is STILL a better value, and saves more lives, than private enterprise (even through Obamacare) can provide.

    @Rad-ish

    Not only is the VA health care socialism, the entire military branch of the federal government is socialism. Oddly, it’s the only part of the federal government that conservatives revere as sacred.

    What planet is your news from?The VA website has all the budget requests.
    The republicans in the senate can’t block anything.If they could, some of the jobs bills from the house would get voted on.Look up some history of the VA.It’s been bad for a very long time.The American legion has published a memo from the VA about “gaming stratigies” from 2010.They knew a long time ago that the bureaucrats were trying to meet their performance objectives so that they would look like they were working, above all else.A government DMV type is a government DMV type is a government DMV type no matter what.

    All Veterans should be made immediately eligible for Tricare. Get the VA out of the health care business, gets the Vets the care that they need.

    More proof that this country loves its soldiers… so long as they have the decency to die for it, instead of coming back alive and costing us money.

    Here’s an idea: What if we change the VA so that it is instead sponsored by the companies who profiteered on the wars?

    I’ve never had to wait any longer for VA treatment appointments than for my “private” who is now paid by Medicare and my private insurance policy. The distance to some services, like surgeries, and “sophisticated” testing that is only in certain VA hospitals, does mean I go “local”. I WISH the REPUBLICANS would get off their duffs and reinstate “fee basis” cards for we who live remote, so the VA can cover our local docs and hospitals, gee, that would be “single payer”!! BTW: it was “W” who cancelled those fee basis cards.
