    Democrat budget and sequester:

Sequester cuts: tuition for soldiers, aid for homeless veterans, federal parks, TSA, Boder Patrol, Head Start, White House tours, fuel for USS HS Truman,

Spending approved under sequestration: Study Nat GEo pictures of animals, Study why adult lesbians are fat, New TSA Uniforms, Grant to DC to promote Bicycling, public breastfeeding and more school recess, 250 million in aid to Egypt, deploying USS Freedom to SE Asia, 7000 assault weapons for HS agents “personal” protection, 1.6 BILLION bullets some of them “hollow point” so not able to be used in combat but ok for "domestic use, 2700 new armored vehicles

Meanwhile, there is NO debt crisis according to Obama, the “budget” proposed asks for a trillion in new taxes and STILL doesn’t eliminate “deficit” spending, the AHCA tax increase is now twice as high……it is SO out of control.

It’s about time the Republicans got billed for there illegal costly war in Iraq. At least Obama finally got the real perpetrator of 911 not Bush. In the future when we do go to War we need to have a tax in place to pay for it.

Bruce, Reagan taught Cheney that deficits don’t matter.

Bruce: the “real deal” is that the way sequester was structured, by the CONGRESS in the bill, personnel costs can be reduced by not hiring people, or furloughing them, but contracted costs/projects are NOT subject to cancellation. BTW: the Executive branch cannot change salaries, only Congress can change the pay tables.

With all the talk, the glowing, glaring, example is that the long-term cost of the constantly failing F-35 is NOT the $400 billion or so talked about in the press, but now over $1.3 TRILLION in obligations that CAN be cancelled!! That one project alone is way more, of course, than the “sequester” or even the “Ryan budget” will save! (And it won’t destroy Medicare and Affordable Care Act, which, end the subsidy to pharmaceutical companies (no bid) and cut even more billions in wasted spending/read profit for corporate America.

    @Kylop

So what exactly does that mean? That because it’s been done for decades that it is OK to continue down the road?

No matter who supports it, no matter who says it does not matter, consistently spending more than you make is BAD economics.

    No household.
    NO business.
    NO investment company.
NO country will prosper with that mentality.

A theory by a economist does not make it good.

OK fine. Assuming that what you say is true in “practice” how do you address the following.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/03/05/sequester-flexibility-continuing-resolution-shutdown/1965227/

    http://blog.al.com/wire/2013/02/one_day_to_go_president_obama.html

    http://www.govexec.com/oversight/2013/02/democrats-oppose-flexibility-sequester-cuts/61547/

So one side says we can fix that problem of the “meat ax” approach. The other side says OH NO you CAN’T.

Nothing is written in stone. But the refusal to collaborate and compromise is the fault of both sides.

BUT I agree with your F-35 statement. But then since the country has a vested interest in the war economy, how many jobs does that eliminate? Roughly.
