    When I was a kid, Halloween decorations were a pumpkin, a couple of plastic skeletons, a few cheap items, if anything. Now they go all out.

    Used to be a Christmas tree in the window, now you are supposed to decorate for every holiday. I refuse to decorate for Halloween. Lowes has HUGE blow-up decorations, Really?

    That’s the spirit, Bub !
    One house we tricked the treats at had two older kids (teens) dressed as scarecrows who sat on the lawn and when you came up the walk they got up suddenly and cavorted in a sort of scary way. The scary part being that it was totally unexpected. The front yard had a nice harvest time/Halloween theme.

    I recently read that Halloween is second only to Christmas for amount of money spent on the holiday.

    I have found that if I ignore Halloween long enough, eventually it goes away.

    There’s only one house in the neighborhood that really decorates. The one with the three pit bulls.

    If it wasn’t for Halloween decorations these guys would be racing to see who could get the Xmas decorations up first. So I’m good with this. At least it’s not the same damn thing for three months. Only two.

    Halloween is a time to have fun. We enjoy ourselves and appreciate the displays people work hard on. Too much seriousness going on. Good time to kick back, play dress up & have a ball! >:)

    We enjoy Halloween and get a kick out of the costumes. I don’t understand why what the neighbors do on their own front lawn is any of her business. If she doesn’t like the display she can pull her curtains and not look at it.

    @Terri Brittingham

    I’m with you Terri! Maybe those old people in the warmer climates don’t need stuff like Halloween to keep the shorter, colder days from getting depressing. If I weren’t so tall, I’d be out there in a mask collecting candy from the neighbors too!

    A lady on my street has one of those! I refuse, my children are lucky to get a pumpkin and costumes, not because I’m mean but because I have a budget and they’d rather I focus more on Christmas.

    There are a few houses and an apartment building in my neighbourhood are starting their decorating. The giant spider that moves. The ghost pirate ship. The Freak Sideshow.(which is really fun) and the graveyard.
    The year Vincent Price died a day before Hallowe’en – the house with the graveyard did a mad scramble to make a special tombstone.
