    Apparently, she never said she could see Russia from her house, that was Tina Fey’s impersonation of her.

    And apparently Sarah Louise Palin is an American politician, commentator and author who served as the ninth Governor of Alaska, from 2006 to 2009. Whatever that is.

    re: BZ

    Yes. It was Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live that said “I can see Russia from my house.”
    It’s actually possible from Diomede, population 120. It should also be noted that on a clear day, those in the settlement on Little Diomede (U.S.) can see Big Diomede (Ru.), a little over 2 miles away.

    Yep, Tina Fey

    If you are going after someone, best to attack what they ACTUALLY said or did rather than act as if the only way is to make stuff up.

    As impersonators are wont to do, the line did have some truth to base it on, albeit exaggerated. It was not made up. Palin was asked about her insight on Russian politics when she answered about the ability to see Russia from Alaska.

    @Bruno Zeigerts

    She said you could see Russia from Alaska, which is true, if you’re standing in the right place in good weather. The ridiculous part is she claimed that qualified her to make foreign policy.

    The basis for the line was Governor Palin’s September 11 2008 appearance on ABC News, her first major interview after being tapped as the vice-presidential nominee. During that appearance, interviewer Charles Gibson asked her what insight she had gained from living so close to Russia, and she responded: “They’re our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.”
