Well since BC is set in a mythical prehistory of all eras mashed together you can find any creature. Even a scaly green dragon probably.

Easy. you wear bells and carry pepper spray for protection and to tell the difference, A black bear’s droppings will have berries in it and a grizzleys droppings will have bells and smell like pepper.
