    I was playing Chess Titans just a bit ago. I wouldn’t keep a “game” console if one was given to me.

    Board games are probably passe, today, but if kids want to learn something historic with their carnage, the old Avalon Hill games (before Hasbro bought them) like Russian Campaign or Squad Leader or Afrika Korps that were based on real WWII events weren’t bad.
    As kids playing them, we always had the problem that, no matter where we put the board, be it on a table, the floor, wherever, the dog would find a way to bump it, run through it or knock it off… (Umm, the entire Russian Front was just hit by a 10.5 earthquake…)

    I need a chess game on my computer. A simple one, without the visuals. Maybe I should just get a set and play against myself…not with…

    In New England our power is still out. Damn! My son may mate me in two turns.

    I feel for you! Ours is back on, but some friends are still waiting. It was actually interesting playing real board games with our kids while the power was out. By candlelight. With coats on. Fortunately, we have a fireplace and can cook on a camp stove in the garage if necessary. I kind of liked not having the games consoles accessible. But I also admit to running over to my office to get online (to read the comics).

    @Scroogeman

    I have a 3 dimensional chess set in storage with my other Star Trek collectibles

    My son and I tried to play it, but the rules were too confusing for us

    He was only about 10 at the time, wish I had an excuse that good.
