    There’s a squirrel that comes into my daughter’s back yard that will climb on your lap and takes peanuts from your hand. They call him “One-eyed Willie.”

    @Salinasong

    My dad had a lumbering, huge (had to be a 5 pounder, while most are 1 to 1.5 lbs) get squirrel he nicknamed “Dirty Face” (due to discoloration o the muzzle and check on one side of the face). If dad would make noise to chase the other squirrels from the backyard birdfeeder, DF would be by later rapping on the window as if to say, “Problem, bud?” We likened him to a Mafia Don of “The Squirrelpranos”, and Dad would joke about one day finding a chipmunk’s head in his favorite recliner in the sunroom overlooking the bird feeder. Never did happen, and DF has since disappeared.

    I had to teach my city squirrels to be afraid of me: stomp my feet and charge them, arms flailing. Suddenly they remember their role in life is to feed the hawks: run!
