    my cousin, 15 years older and very irreverent, would ask us in a loud voice how old we were, then when we told him he’d shout, Wow, if you were a girl you’d be wearing kotex! He was in his 20’s, I was 10.

    As other already said, “embarazado” is pregnant.
    But for “embarrassing” there is the spanish word: “embarazoso”, that means “a situation that bothers you”. And probably it derives from “embarazo”, because pregnant can be that kind of situation (and because spanish is some male chauvinist). :)
