    Morning, Anniephans!

    Check the map and you’ll discover that in our universe, Yucatan doesn’t have a southern coast.

    I like the perspective in the second panel. One picture tells you a lot.

    I seem to remember that Henry Ford tried to build a “City of the Future” down there to house his rubber plantation peons, and it didn’t work out too well for him, either…

    Judging from the progress, I think it’s safe to assume the real Warbucks is not unaware of this project. He must have started the work when he was still living underwater.

    Maybe, as a city of the future, they are heavily dependent on solar heating of their water tank. If that is the case, it would take most of the day to heat the water.

    Is that a cruise ship in the background in the first panel?

    @Dampwaffle

    I thought his “Rubber City” was in Brazil, not Mexico. Back in the 1920’s. There is a whole book on the venture.

    @davidf42

    It is debatable whether you would call it a SE coast or South or East coast for the Yucatan peninsula.

    I’m sure the writer meant the southern end of the east coast. ;-)
