    Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 18 “The Everlasting Man-thing”(45) 4/26/2013 Friday

    Panel One

    On the island Alley decides to see if he can coax the Baldander out to meet him. He takes one of the Crash colas they bought in town and sits on a rock. (The two Challengers also sit, on the ground.)

    Panel Two

    Alley then makes a big deal of opening the pop top of the cola then taking a drink and saying, “aaaahhh!!” Like he had seen in commercials. Then sets it down near him. He looks for his book but it is missing! He decides he must have dropped it in all the hubbub going on.

    Panel Three

    The Baldander is watching and licks its green human lips when ‘he’ sees Alley taking a drink. Then notices Alley is looking for something. The Baldander intuits it is the book ‘he’ now has.

    I would guess that none of the ones who complain here about how slowly this strip moves follow Brooke McEldowney’s strips … Or maybe you do! Could that be why he disabled comments on his?

    Not according to his explanation.

    Brooke’s strips might move like glaciers. But at least move they do.

    Brooke gave an explanation for disabling comments, and part of it did have to do with the negativity of the comments. Nobody has the capacity to please everybody, and many of you are chronic malcontents. You could be at “The Marriage Supper of the Lamb” and within five minutes of arrival you’ll be carping about everything from the seating arrangements to the host’s attire. I really don’t think it’s even possible for some of you to just enjoy the comic.

    I admit to being one of the negatives during the Locher “Tracy” time, that was particularly bad. A more cowardly detective than Locher’s “Tracy” could not exist. Since the new crew took over, it’s a lot better. Here on Oop— I haven’t seen Alley hiding behind a tree and blubbering that he was gonna be killed yet. I’m waiting for the guard to push the lawyer into the pit— heck, I’ll help push—so we’ll see.

    This is a lawyer?
    Well – - – - remember the “tax man” episode a few years or so ago? Looks like this is another such.
    And is something radiating from Wizer? I mean, is that sunlight glowing on his face, or is some kind of power emanating from it?

    @Michael McMillan

    Michael, I think it’s rather unfair of you to say that those of us who are displeased with the Benders’ rendition of Alley Oop are “chronic malcontents.” I read and make very favorable comments on other strips, and have even made favorable comments here on occasion. For example, see my comment today on Gasoline Alley, or some of my recent comments on Nancy. No, I haven’t seen Oop cowering and blubbering behind a tree, or even in the cockpit of a plane, but the Benders have so badly changed his character and personality that I think those of us who remember Alley Oop from the VT Hamlin and Dave Graue years do indeed have reason to complain.
