Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 14 “Dark Trail of Doom”(31) 7/12/12

Panel One

The hanger the Sunshine JTTF unit was using had all the amenities while the C-17-D was off to Nebraska. Nobu had found many interesting bits of datum. Some on the internet, and others from the inter library loan system still in operation. It should help their investigation. Their return was inauspicious as was the off loading of the last device the devious Dr. Dark wanted so badly. She was impressed with the plan to make it harder for the bad doctor to find it. But considering his capacities she wasn’t so sure they would work against him. Sitting on their thumbs is not an option. He’s planning something but they still don’t know what exactly.

They still have no idea where he went in Europe or why he had gone there in the first place. Both NATO and the policing agency INTERPOL have been alerted as every country they could think of. Only the information is too vague to really be of use. Nobu prepares to give them the best of what she has found after they are debriefed and clean up, eat and rest some.

Panel Two

For a “cave man” Alley Oop’s brains are more than one would consider smart if you just looked at his head. He has been an invaluable ally in all this. From what Oscar says it was Alley who first noticed the strange robberies in the local paper that got this ball rolling. Nobu had a different assessment of Oop now than when she first met him.

Panel Three

Dr. Dark tells them where to go. He did find it humorous that they tried so hard to hide the Erikon tube. And they worked to produce fakes also he suspects, but Iron Palm will have a foolproof way of verifying the right one. And he will make sure that Sunshine task force will have a dark night indeed. (He is also sending other teams out to some of the other sites just to confuse them for a bit.)

Well Ooola is off voyaging with Yochi, the stranger into his strange land where she is now the stranger.

Well, I say the strip is getting better. I’m sure I’m missing somethings, that might have others saying, “Better?!? Are you NUTS?!?” Be that as it may, today’s story is moving quit along.

Nonetheless…I’m seeing the stars, showing Yochi is hurting Ooola’s wrist. And it’s not wrong for her to cry out to Alley for help. But yesterday saw her ready to haul off and slug the Mayan all the way to 12/21/12. That’s the old Ooola we all know and love! Where is she, Jack and Carole? We saw the shadow of a ghost of a spectre of the real Ooola. But now she’s faded and become all weepy wailey, again.

“Sister, get out of my way! If this clown thinks he’s taking me somewhere I don’t wanta go, he’s got another think coming!”
“Wh—who are you?”
“I’m the real Ooola! And you’re crampin’ my style!”

Actually, I know what’s happened: See, Lola stowed away [without realizing it] on the rocket from Earth Two. But she did not survive the trip. She died. But [unknown to even herself] she was using the same magic that vampires use to make themselves appear to be living, even though they are really nothing more than walking corpses.

So Lola doesn’t even know that she’s dead. Neither does anybody else. She followed Alley all the way back to Moo and when Hamid showed up, looking for Ooola; well, the truth is that it was Ooola who went with him, after all. The [non-bloodsucking] vampire Lola stayed in Moo. She and Ooola really did change dresses in the end. So it’s really Lola, but everybody thinks she’s really Ooola. And that’s why she’s a lot wussier than Ooola.

Confused? Hey, I think it makes more sense than Twilight, myself.

Keeps on developing well. Sometimes I almost feel Alley’s getting swallowed up in this, but you bring him back enough so we don’t forget what he looks like. It would be like this in real life, in any case.

It reminds me of when Marvel did an adaptation of A Witch Shall be Born. Toward the end there was a scene where Conan finds the captive Queen Taramis. But in Howard’s original story, it was Valerius, one of the lesser characters that found her [Conan was busy outside, doing his conquering]. Howard had the better feel for telling his story than Marvel did [get the hero as much exposure as possible, even if it didn’t happen that way.]
You, definitely are not making their mistake.

Talk about magic. Seems Alley has his stone ax again! Just magically apeared! Dont’ worry, Alley will find a way to follow Ooola (yes, Ooola not Lola). You’ll see. As an asside, I like the way the story is going so far. Maybe the Benders are reading the comments?

OOOPS! Looks like Ooola has been zapped forward to Mayan mesoamerica with Yochi – maybe Alley will follow. I would estimate – if they do go back (forward) to where Yochi came from, it will be Mexico / Central American approx. 100 – 300 B.C. (I think – is anyone out there an expert on mesoamerican history?).

How does that time portal work? Could they be zapped somewhere else entirely?
