I think Carole is at least trying [in her own bumbling way] to make things interesting. Bringing in a Sixth century Mayan into continuity has potential [but then so did the trained dinos of Earth Two, and the [untrained] stone heads].
And it is the Sixth century. Seventh wouldn’t begin until the first of the year 601. [Minor point, that.]
Some might object to Yochi just grabbing Ooola. I don’t defend it, but remember that Mayan culture was not above sacrificing female virgins in bottomless wells—that’s not much support for Mayans believing in equal rights. Yochi wasn’t very interested in finding a wife in the first place. He’s only doing it [at this point] because of paternal pressure. “She’ll do,” is within character. And Yochi obviously doesn’t really care what she looks like. He’s willing to settle for a woman whose skull has not been flattened from birth [a thing I believe the Mayans were pretty big on].
Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 14 “Dark Trail of Doom”(28) 7/9/12
Now I know you are wondering how our intrepid team fooled the spy-eyes of Dr. Dark? Well in that part of the Bendix building it is a giant Faraday cage within the walls. So no signals got out or in. But outside their departure was recorded and relayed to Dr. Dark’s information hub.
Panel One
So the vault itself as are several other vaults sheathed in copper wiring and protective EM radiation so hopefully it will make Dark’s search harder. Other places too are setting up fake places in hopes of drawing Dr. Dark’s operatives to at least catch or kill them. Now all the have to do is the hardest thing of all——wait.
Panel Two
During all this time agent Nobu McCarthy had stayed behind and been pursuing several lines of inquiry in relation to creating a character profile of Dr. Dark and find a means of identifying him and tracking his where abouts. All she would need is one good visual of him to make an auragram digital graph.
She is happy that technology has proven auras exist and made them visible to those others who can’t normally see them like she can. Depending on the type of technique used some photographs could capture some of the emanations. Even that would be enough.
Any chance of a parallel strip, ie Alley Oop Classics, beginning with the first strip and going from there. This does not to be a problem with Lil Abner – It’s started at the beginning about ten times so far!
It doesn’t have to be that way. Many a fine cartoonist (Caniff, Hamlin, Starr, Gray to name a few) were able to use the Sunday to bridge between Saturday and Monday with a Sunday strip that was not simply a repeat of prior events. Alas, the Benders are not fine cartoonists.
What I know of the Mayans is that they were actually American Indians. The American Indians did and most still do, revere their women and wives. They literally worship the ground they walk on and treat them with much T.L.C. I hope the Benders have Yochi respecting Oola with all his heart.
NightGaunt, great info about the auras. Wonder is Dr Dark has an empty black hole of an aura. I wish I could see them, I’ll have to be content trusting the vibes I get from those I meet.
. Yochi is putting quite the hurtful grip on Ooola. She should just give her ‘standard Cave style’ whack!

In most cultures women were treated as commodities, not equal citizens. So Yochi’s action is correct. Not good for Oola though.

at least the creepy leaves are actually on a tree, making them much less creepy, which is more than i can say for this plot line

You did sir. The Sunday is for those who only get Alley Oop once a week on Sundays which also has Mondays too.
Those leaves never leave me feeling creepy at all.
