I had a reusable one, made out of something called ‘metal’.

My mother gave us our lunches in paper bags (after the metal ones). She wanted us to bring them back to be reused.

When I went back into public school my mom packed my lunch in a brown paper bag, but she mortified me by putting the sandwiches into the waxed bags from inside cereal boxes.

“waxed cereal bags”: Ha – I’ve done that! But only a couple of times.

My brother was a “rod buster”(sets up the re-bar for concrete) on the construction of a nuclear power plant. He carried his lunch in a Partridge Family lunch box.

That’s too funny. My husband worked in construction and actually worked in reinforcing concrete. I’m picturing the ribbing your brother must have gotten. Sounds like your brother has a good sense of humor like you do.

    That is great.
As much an archetype as a chess playing refuse collector.

Telly Savalas could have played a character like your brother, if only Telly had hair.

I got to move up to brown bags when I went from grade school to high school (grades 8-12). But had to try to make that bag last a week.
