Tony Cochran’s Agnes is a whimsical look at childhood through the eyes of the title character and her best friend, Trout. What sets this strip apart is the focus on that limbo just before little girls discover boys and appropriate social skills.

Minor details Trout. Agnes can invoke artistic license.

I’ve actually met and talked a few times with a man who built what was billed by the county fair as the world’s largest toothpick sculpture….
but he says there are a few bigger ones.
It’s absolutely wonderful… silly but strangely beautiful….
a lacy, delicate, and artistic model of San Francisco that’s 7 feet tall.
Maybe 3 years ago, he told me the biggest popsicle stick sculpture in the world was about 400,000 sticks, about the same as the number of toothpicks he estimated he’d used.
But the Thai one doubled that. It’s a sort of 3-dimensional map of Thailand.

As Maxwell Smart would say about the Thai sculpture, ’That’s the second biggest popsicle stick scupture I’ve ever seen!

San Francisco in toothpicks; it’s one of my favorite things.
In THIS VIDEO
you can see how he designed it so ping pong balls roll along paths and take “tours” through The City.
He has added some parts of the east bay since I last saw it.
BTW… Scott, the artist, and his family live about 5 miles from me,
and every Christmas I (and half the county) go to see his house.
It’s absolutely covered in lights and his handmade plywood Disney cut-outs.
He says he’s NOT an artist. In his day job he manages a supermarket produce department!

@SusanSunshine
I’ve seen this before, can’t remember when: thank you for finding it – it’s as inspiring and beautiful as the first time I saw it.

This explains why Agnes spends so much of her life in the principal’s office.

Agnes has little dreams, the kind that can be fulfilled by her in her life.

It is good Agnes has contingency plans.
