Who goes to a doctor for a cold?
Granted, we have free medical care here in Canada … so some people have been known to go to the emergency ward for mosquito bites, scratches …

How do you know he has cold?

Here in Latvia, if you have flu, you can ask doctor to come to visit you if it is the flu season (I guess they don’t want you to give to all other patients).

I have Leukemia. I have been told many times that priapism is sometimes a side effect of CML, so if I develop the symptoms of priapism I have several phone numbers for nurses, even though they know I am exhausted all the time.

Jenner over at Doc Rat ( http://www.docrat.com.au/ ) also covered the topic of a productive cough with Wilbur Fuzz. Good comic from Australia, the other side of the date line, so it shows up Sunday through. Thursday, 10AM CDT, midnight Eastern Australia Standard Time.

I love “Doc Rat”!! I meet many Aussies and Zealanders at my job and they have never heard of this cartoon. I love it.

Anyway, I (here in the US) had to go to the doctor with what I thought might be the onset of a cold but was turning into bronchitis. Definitely a productive cough: (TMI alert) grey-green, tasting like metal, chewable like plastic. Yup, definite sign I am getting sick.

It isn’t free Bruno! We pay for it in our extortionist taxes.

“Productive” cough! Never heard that expression before. What does it mean? Coughing up lumps and stuff? Of course, I don’t get sick very often so my association with doctors is very limited. Thank God!

Yes, a ‘productive cough’ brings up gobs of phlegm while your throat and mouth cannot decide on whether to spit it out or swallow it back. Not a pretty sight. Or taste.

I have had to go to the ER for an infected mosquito bite. I was told that it is common and can be serious. My arm was swollen up pretty good.

We don’t have “free” medical care. We pay for it through our high taxes

Back when I was a child (in the ‘50s) doctors still made house calls in the US. Now, if you want to see the doctor, you go to his (or her) office. And, actually, it makes sense: the doctors can see far more patients per day if they don’t have to spend all that time driving around.

Sounds like a chest cold, which I did suspect when he said it was steadily getting worse (having had such colds before, I can vouch for it).
