This might sound crazy, but hear me out. It's a show about a series of murders in a small town, investigated by a well adjusted, happily-married detective with a stable family and an untroubled past.
British TV’s been there, done that. Not badly either. The closest US TV today would get to it would probably be Dexter (which wasn’t bad but it seems less and less like a stretch to call Dexter “normal” with every passing day).
Dexter was anything but normal. In the tv show and in the books, he was motivated by an overpowering urge to kill. He justifies it internally by only killing murderers (mainly).
Midsomer Murders, the crime capital of England, and annoyingly removed from Netflix recently.
But get this, the family dog secretly identifies as a cat!
It’s on Acorn TV and I presume, Britbox.
Murder, She Wrote … although, Jessica wasn’t married, that I recall.
It’ll never play in Poughkeepsie….
It’s a no go. There are a set of required liberal identities that must be present in the cast of each new show. The plot is secondary to these identities.
