A fair chunk of the population of Syria and other unstable Middle Eastern countries are trying to temporarily remove themselves to EU countries, where they intend to stay only until it is safe to return to their homelands. While any decent person sympathizes with that, the desire to return means no assimilation into the host country, which in turns means low paid jobs, subsidized housing and medical care, and other demands on taxpayer resources. This demand will never be repaid because they will not want to stay longer than they must. In effect, the demand is that the refugees be sheltered, fed and clothed at taxpayer expense because their own countries have become war zones. With no commitment to the host country, and in some instances every intention of insisting that the citizens of the host country provide every service demanded without any return of courtesy or gratitude, and a further demand that citizens of the host country not act in any way which offends the prickly religious sensibilities of the male refugees, it is understandably difficult for the various EU governments to want the refugees and to justify the financial drain and social strains that accompany this. The refugees don’t help their case by committing crimes in the host countries, particularly crimes against women, refusing to learn the host country’s language, and insisting that the refugees’ religious rights be sacrosanct while refusing to respect the religious rights of those of the host country.
