Yet history tells us that we do not make our best decisions during a crisis. All the irresponsible denial in the world will not stop a process that we have ( or had ) the means of halting/reversing. Desperate, last minute, thoughts and prayers aren’t going to work this time either, it seems, … as it’s time to pay the piper.

Reality (the commenter) doesn’t seem to like actual reality. Yet it is going to be the “featured comment” because people trying to bring the truth forward.

Fossil fuel companies continue to get subsidies while they continue to add more to climate change; they don’t want renewables until after they have sold all of their dirty fuel no matter the consequences. Some of those subsidies are over a century old – they were given when this was a “new industry”. Therefore they should be switched to support renewables.

PEOPLE wouldn’t be giving up freedoms, the COMPANIES would be regulated to PROTECT PEOPLE. Unfettered capitalism causes damage – always has and always will when profits are considered to be more important than people.

The cries about “giving up freedom” by having regulations only register with people who believe in bumper stickers without having to REALLY think about an issue.

@Nantucket, The sad thing is the reactionary replies done at a subordinate, indented reply level, serve to push the “featured comment” number up and if the originator wants to eliminate significant rebuttals, they can all be eliminated with a single click or tap. Replies done at the (top) “peer” level can only be erased by their owner.

Just a couple of strips over, Luckovich has the same idea, drawn differently.
