While I was at work on Tuesday, I found myself uttering a phrase I never thought I’d ever say – “Excuse me, is this your chicken?”
I’m an Electrical Engineer, and I was working in one of our HV Substations on the edge of a village when I saw a chicken wandering about in the road outside. As I was concerned that it might get run over I thought I’d try and shoo it back towards the nearby houses. As I approached it, it came up to me, it was quite tame. I picked up said tame chicken and carried it back to where I thought it might have come from. I found its owner (and uttered said immortal phrase) and it was released back into the pen with the others. I was at the same Substation yesterday, the same chicken escaped again! and came wandering past……. I took the chicken back again….. I spoke to the owner later in the day as he wasn’t around at the time I released it back into its pen, and he said he was trying to work out where it was getting out of the pen as this particular chicken’s nickname was ‘Houdini’.
I don’t normally deal with chickens on a day-to-day basis……….!
