The main difference between growing up in the US and growing up in Japan is that Japanese kids have far more regulated lives. When they aren’t doing homework or studying at an afterschool program, they’re expected to be practicing whatever activity their parents have picked for them—-piano, ballet, karate, and yeah, baseball. I’m amazed Japanese pitchers have any arm left by the time they start playing college level.
