“People like Thomas” was just asking a legitimate question, out of curiosity and for clarification. I’m still left wondering where the 30,000 statistic came from and what, exactly, it includes, which I don’t know has been answered until I know the source. “People like DOSQueen” is more interested in ascribing “twisted” motives to others.
By virtue of the particular egregiousness of the shooting highlighted in the comic, the comic is implying that each of the 30,000 “incidents” are on par with it or can ascribe blame to guns on a somewhat equal basis. But that’s not always the case.
Just as an example: suicides, while tragic, aren’t necessarily made more likely by virtue of being committed with firearms. So one side can say that the other is minimizing gun deaths, while the other side can say that the one side is inflating gun violence. Both are at partially true. It all depends on what exactly we’re trying to measure – again, which is why I asked where the statistic came from. Does it, for instance, include cases of self-defense?
This doesn’t work when I ask for a “tall blonde”.
