Oop first suggested getting on this giraffe on Sunday. (Sigh.) Four days and he’s still not on the giraffe.

As much as everyone likes the art in the last panel, the face of the giraffe two panels earlier is, um, not as good (to put it nicely). But to be positive, the story seems to be moving in an interesting direction.

That dialogue in the first panel sounds ridiculous given that she’s alone in the lab. There had to be a better way than that silly exposition, even making it a thought balloon would help.

I don’t want to sound like a troll, so please bear with me. I am a long-time reader of classic strips but I never paid much attention to Alley Oop. I started reading this on May 5th, which was part of the wrap up of the previous adventure. It is 19 days later and nearly nothing has happened, and the new adventure is barely beginning. Is it too much to ask for a strip to do something engaging to new readers in a 3 week span? I know not every day can be a jumping on point, but since Alley and Ooola went “poof” on May 18th, (a logical jumping on point for a new reader), almost a week ago, things have moved mighty slowly. 19 days is long enough to decide if I want to stick around this slooooow moving strip, and I feel like I don’t. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

As for the Sunday strips, is it necessary to have a strip simply for readers who only read on Sunday? I understand how in the past it was a necessity due to bigger Sunday readership. but in this era of low newspaper sales and bigger online views (making every strip equally accessible), isn’t it an anachronism? Especially since this Sunday story is only a recap, which shortchanges regular readers. If it was a different continuity I could see the point, but this is pointless.

The best thing to promote Sunday readers to becoming weekly readers isn’t this shortened recap, it is better-paced stories. Ironically, the Sunday pacing is much better than during the week. This would promote the opposite- weekly readers might be tempted to read only the Sundays and avoid the glacial pace of the weeklies.

It’s a longshot, but could an APB have been put out on "Boris Karloff, " which the convention’s security knew about and called the police when the scuffle broke out?

I love how Tracy doesn’t identify himself as a policeman, he’s Dick Tracy and that’s good enough!

So has everyone in the audience just heard that there’s a dead janitor in the crate, and Gruesome and Mel mentioned by real name, not character name?

    Actors can always be replaced…

I think the closest he came was in an Amicus production, which people often mistake for Hammer. The film Mad House used a clip of Karloff from the Raven.
