It started going downhill a little before this, but this was the cliff it walked over.

Tell that to a friend who’s daughter swallowed a bullet. If it doesn’t pass through quickly it can lead to lead poisoning.

Sad but true commentary on the School System. It’s hard when your son complains about the poor quality of the curriculum and bad teaching practices, and your first inclination is to agree with him.

    boringly cute?

At my own graduation, they inserted someone before me messing up the order. When they called out her name when I was supposedly next in order there were a few gasps from the audience with the imagined thought bubble “are they not going to let him graduate”. It wasn’t helped by a rumour that I had annoyed enough people in admin that they weren’t going to let me graduate.

And look … all that money couldn’t buy a decent government!

    To Mike31g:

You do realise that the whole series you pointed to was an attack on Bush and the Republicans, not on Dukakis? Or are you so totally out of touch that you think that one strip was an attack?

GBT has always been a very left wing liberal and had no shame in showing it in his strips. As someone with a right wing bias I’ve always enjoyed his snipes but no one can seriously believe that he tries to play an even hand. His extremely light touch on the current Prez is yet another example of his bias. There is a huge amount of humour to mine from Obama’s terms but GBT is too biased to play with much of it.

I don’t know, China has successfully outsourced its garbage disposal to the US.

I did the same with a few dozen roses once, a long time ago. A complete failure. Girls either thought I was weird or that their one rose of many meant they were my one true valentine. Upon commiserating with an aunt she rolled her eyes and sighed about the state of “modern” women …

Being an IT person from the era, and knowing several of the key people involved in “inventing” the Internet, Al Gore’s claims are pure self-agrandisement; even the watered down wording. Vint and Bob were being nice for a Democrat. Al Gore did provide useful support, but he never provided “intellectual leadership”. The Internet would have come along without his meagre support. It was the Universities and private companies that provided the true “intellectual leadership”. The government has provided funding for what they didn’t understand and legislation to mostly get in the way.
