Reading some of these comments, I’m glad I don’t have most of you as friends. You’re acting as if Luann is some stranger to Gunther. They’ve known each other for a majority of their lives. I’m sure there’s personal info that they each have on each other that know one else knows.
So why wouldn’t Luann be curious about her close friend’s life? I’d put a wager down that if it were two close guy friends, they’d be high fiving each other over the pictures. Where’s the difference?
She cares about him and she wants to know if he’s happy. I think it’s more telling that Gunther’s pissed that she did ask around. He’s not angry at her, he’s angry about something else that’s a lot more interesting.
That would make sense for people that don’t know each other.
Luann and Gunther have known each other for decades. They’ve known each other’s personal lives, their hopes, dreams, everything. They share friends, schools, lives. Asking Luann to stop watching a friend’s life is like asking her to give up her own. She cares about him. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Unless Gunther flat out says to stay out of his life, sets a boundary, then she’s done nothing wrong.
Yes, they are out there. As you say, they are competing with more popular activities, such as sports. My school also offered a Drama curriculum through high school, where we participated in yearly tournaments.
