Am I alone in being bothered by days of this strip being basically advertising for a donut company? Did Jan get a kickback from the company or something?

My guess is that between Max and Lucie, they’re all up early at that house. And the sound of the kids shrieking when the airhorn sounds probably gets Andy to really scramble!

My 14 year old goes to bed on her own terms. In the morning I go in her room, turn off her white noise machine, turn on the light and her MP3 player and that’s it.

It really is hard for teens to go to sleep early. Hey, I’m still that way, I’ve just learned to survive on less sleep!

She’s not channeling your son, Saskfan, she’s channeling my daughter. At least up until now. She’s not into texting, thank goodness!

“Alix” is not a boy’s name–it’s short for Alexandra, or Alexa or such. And what’s that got to do with personal tastes?

This is straight from my own family–only it’s my older daughter who eschews the “pink and sparkly” and tends to prefer the boys department stuff. And she does NOT have a “boy’s” name–her name is a common girl’s one!

Stone Soup always makes me laugh because I have a 14 year old and a 10 year old–though my 14 is more like Alix and my 10 year old more like Holly!

Just this morning, I was talking to my 10 year old about this. She knows about it, but had more questions. I always find car time is a good time for this.

As to when–if they’re asking questions, it’s definitely time. But, girls are menstruating earlier so they will hear about it from others earlier than you’d expect. Keep it simple and reassuring–most kids don’t WANT tons of info at first–just basic facts.

I highly recommend getting a copy of the American Girl book–“The Care and Keeping of A Good Thing–YOU!”. Lots on hygiene issues–bras, deodorant, etc and a very good chapter on menstruation. My older daughter has it and has now passed it onto her sister.

These aren’t little kids they are middle schoolers at least. I made my daughter’s lunch in elementary school–and I still make her little sister’s lunch.

But at almost 14 (I’m ALMOST a grown up, Mom) she can make her own lunch or eat school lunch!
