   though maybe literally so, seeing how in the long term, letting a conservative hold of the nation become widespread–due to the apathy, lethargy, cynicism, and foolishness of the disenchanted–this will bring great and unfortunate repercussions for too long a time.

   The disaffection and discouragement shown in these forums is even worst than all the touted promises this administration sold to us.

   I am no Obama apologist, heck, I’m reading Noam Chomksy’s Hope and Prospects, but I do understand that, short of a painful, protracted revolution, too soon squashed by the mighty military-industrial complex, the best hope we have is to mobilize to action and vote for the democrats as a vehicle to a more progressive government.

   Go ahead and give up. With your pusillanimity I can only see you are even worst than those you criticize so contemptuously.

   Just don’t forget that, when you see the next war cooked up by tenuous evidence, or the already diluted health care reform go to the drain, and see this country of yours taken over by corporations that outsource your job to exploit those with no other choice but sufferance, and see the next financial crisis again stop the economy on its tracks, know that it was as much your fault because you had no cojones to move this country forward.

   I don’t think it is a real manifesto as real manifestos are not sold, just bestowed. I do want to buy the book though, but right now I’m unemployed and with approximately 4 dlls in my bank account.

   To elaborate more on what I wrote previously, I submit the following letter from Troy Davis:

   “Where is the Justice for me? In 1989 I surrendered myself to the police for crimes I knew I was innocent of in an effort to seek justice through the court system in Savannah, Georgia USA. But like so many death penalty cases, that was not my fate and I have been denied justice. During my imprisonment I have lost more than my freedom, I lost my father and my family has suffered terribly, many times being treated as less than human and even as criminals. In the past I have had lawyers who refused my input, and would not represent me in the manner that I wanted to be represented. I have had witnesses against me threatened into making false statements to seal my death sentence and witnesses who wanted to tell the truth were vilified in court.

   For the entire two years I was in jail awaiting trial I wore a handmade cross around my neck, it gave me peace and when a news reporter made a statement in the local news, “Cop-killer wears cross to court,” the cross was immediately taken as if I was unworthy to believe in God or him in me. The only time my family was allowed to enter the courtroom on my behalf was during the sentencing phase where my mother and sister had to beg for my life and the prosecutor simply said, “I was only fit for killing.” Where is the Justice for me, when the courts have refused to allow me relief when multiple witnesses have recanted their testimonies that they lied against me?

   Because of the Anti-Terrorism Bill, the blatant racism and bias in the U.S. Court System, I remain on death row in spite of a compelling case of my innocence. Finally I have a private law firm trying to help save my life in the court system, but it is like no one wants to admit the system made another grave mistake. Am I to be made an example of to save face? Does anyone care about my family who has been victimized by this death sentence for over 16 years? Does anyone care that my family has the fate of knowing the time and manner by which I may be killed by the state of Georgia?

   I truly understand a life has been lost and I have prayed for that family just as I pray for mine, but I am Innocent and all I ask for is a True Day in a Just Court. If I am so guilty why do the courts deny me that? The truth is that they have no real case; the truth is I am innocent.

   Where is the Justice for me?

   Fennec I will forward your thoughts to the writer of that essay: Frank Schaeffer.

   I, like most of these bloggers and Ted Rall, am quite disappointed at the rate of this so called “change” so far. We have seen almost a Bush Lite continuation on some (or most) government policies, and our expectation was much more greater. But as Mr. Fennec explains, we mustn’t give up just yet. What moved me to action (and by this I mean I am looking forward to vote and start making some activism, at least sharing things like this wherever I have the chance), was when I read the following statement from Mr. Obama (and I hope these bloggers and Ted can agree with me that we should mobilize to action instead of just complaining):

   “The idea that we’ve got a lack of enthusiasm in the Democratic base, that people are sitting on their hands complaining, is just irresponsible. Everybody out there has to be thinking about what’s at stake in this election and if they want to move forward over the next two years or six years or 10 years on key issues like climate change, key issues like how we restore a sense of equity and optimism to middle-class families who have seen their incomes decline by five percent over the last decade. If we want the kind of country that respects civil rights and civil liberties, we’d better fight in this election. And right now, we are getting outspent eight to one by these 527s that the Roberts court says can spend with impunity without disclosing where their money’s coming from. In every single one of these congressional districts, you are seeing these independent organizations outspend political parties and the candidates by, as I said, factors of four to one, five to one, eight to one, 10 to one. We have to get folks off the sidelines. People need to shake off this lethargy, people need to buck up. Bringing about change is hard — that’s what I said during the campaign. It has been hard, and we’ve got some lumps to show for it. But if people now want to take their ball and go home, that tells me folks weren’t serious in the first place. If you’re serious, now’s exactly the time that people have to step up”

   One must be pragmatic and smart Lavocat, if we let the Tea jacobins or Republicans make progress, well then we better start thinking about moving to Canada, Brazil or Venezuela, or somewhere else you feel comfortable living in.

   I do not know if Ted’s cartoon has the dimension I gather from it. But being quite familiarized with the Criminal Justice system myself, and having witnessed its propensity to become too legalistic, rigid and formulaic without actually endeavoring to pursue the actual truth of every criminal case, but instead concoting a case from the ground up or from thin air as many over zealous, self-aggrandizing prosecutors do, enmeshed in an adversarial judicial system that cherry picks unprepared, impressionable jurors that are most often impressed by which side has the most vehement display at litigation, instead of the truth, well then this cartoon is quite poignant.
