What a mess, now some blacks decided to make like cops and now the cops will have a better excuse to shoot blacks.

Its not all cops and I think/hope/pray that it is a teeny tiny minority of cops who act that way, but living in a predominantly white suburb, I admit, I don’t know. I am just crying for the divisive wreck our country is in fueled by the bigotry and racism of a major party political candidate. Black lives matter. So do blue and white ones.

From time to time I read posts by people saying that the point of the second amendment is so that citizens can protect themselves against the government. Well, if there is any group in the US that has a reason to think that they are oppressed by the government, I’d say it’s the black community. Not just because so many black men get killed by police, who then seem to be protected by the system, but also because so many black schools and neighborhoods are run down, because they don’t get the services other neighborhoods get, because so many young black men are in prison rather than in college, and so on. So now five police officers in Dallas have been killed, and another six wounded. This is a tiny taste of what insurrection would look like. Do you like it? I don’t. We don’t need an armed society. We need to solve the nation’s problems, but we can’t do that with guns, on either side. We need a commitment to build a society that offers a decent life to everyone, a good education, a good job, a decent neighborhood with good services, and hope for the future for each individual and for society as a whole.

it is a relatively slow but increasing genocide. The militarized police will be coming for the veterans, the old, the weak, and are already doing to the homeless the same thing. “First they came for the Jews…”It will be the whole 99% within a few years.

I am an average looking old white guy. I have never been arrested or been in trouble. I obey traffic laws and am a courteous and safe driver.I am terrified of cops, just because of the actions of cops who have stopped and harassed me. License plate light out, 1 of 2 lights. I had yard tools in the truck. I was detained for 30 minutes and truck searched thoroughly. I had to find a Walmart and change a bulb, in light freezing rain. Cop said that he had notified other cops to watch for me. This was a small town in East Texas. Stopped for passing an entrance to the Interstate. The service road was the old highway and continued for miles. I was a half mile from any buildings. There had been a cop shooting in Dallas and this cop was looking for someone to shoot. He stayed in his draw stance until he made me lean on the truck while he searched it. He kept asking me what I was doing out so late, it was 2 a.m, I was on my way home from work.I have worked with black people my entire working life. You should hear some of the stories they have to tell.I am terrified of cops.

Unarmed WHITE guy was shot yesterday, barely made the news, only saw one brief report, no names given.

Over 30 gun deaths a day in the US, and “race” is NOT a factor in the majority of them, but the media has their choice to make.

26 Police killed on duty this year, so far. It is NOT one-sided and though taken to the irrational fear level in some areas, NO traffic stop is routine. I know, stopped a guy with broken taillight and no license plate. He had a 9 mm Browning on the seat, and thankfully, I had a partner that night. We checked him out, he had 9 outstanding homicide warrants, four for killing cops. White guy, well dressed and polite, but a very bad man. In over 1,200 arrests, I never shot anyone, even this guy, but that was years ago, when FEAR was rationally contained to real life situations demanding caution, but not a cowardly shoot first response.

Police DO need to look carefully at their training, but the citizens, and the “media” spreading fear on all sides, need to look carefully at THEIR influence on our society…

No civilized answer for the last two shootings bringing on the protest, but also no civilized answer for “bad guys” to be able to outgun the police out there protecting people,as was also clearly the case from the videos of Dallas last night.

Good cops were doing their jobs, and getting shot. That remains the overriding truth in America… Media needs to get their act together, and so do American citizens looking for hate, instead of cooperation, and civilized behavior.

As long as the suspect doesn’t REACH FOR THE GUN IN HIS POCKET there won’t be any problem with stopping them for a tail light.

You have the privilege to be white, if you refuse this privilege, you will be shot. I am another middle-aged white guy who just had a terrible encounter with a police officer who, upon discovering I was doing nothing wrong got extremely belligerent, cursed me out, accused me of a myriad of crimes (and did not arrest me) and let me go – scared as hell, and glad I was born the right skin color.

The vast majority of law enforcement officers are responsible professionals who defuse rather than escalate confrontations, and work hard to build and maintain community goodwill. But when repeated incidents of rare bad apples murder young black men in minor traffic stops in which the black driver is polite, cooperative and compliant, or petty infractions, and “working within the system” never holds anyone accountable, no one should be surprised when oppressed communities rise up and pay attention to NRA suggestions that they should resort to “Second Amendment remedies” to fight back against the government. Similarly, the vast majority of Muslims are good, law-abiding people. When rare bad apples commit acts of terror, everyone demands the good ones speak out. Will we also demand that the good cops break their “code of silence” and speak up to hold the bad ones responsible? Can we just stop the killing? All of it?

Uniforms have an extremely bad impact on ordinary people. I favor costumes.

It seems that both of the recent killings by police were motivated by fear and not racism. These cops are afraid of the black citizenry. This is a recipe for disaster. A scared man with a gun is too dangerous.
