There’s not much new to say about this oil spill – comments at this point are pretty predictable – on both sides. The only novelty comes when either BP or some politician says something exceptionally stupid. Fortunately, they manage about one a day. The amount of BS that BP has caused or inspired is truly astounding.
^ Hey, I’m not in a position to say who did what to whom, and I haven’t done so. I hope an inquiry will get to the bottom of it, and until then, specific blame may premature. I’m no friend of Halliburton, but if they were warning BP, then good on them. But it so, doesn’t that just make BP look even worse? It’s hard to imagine that BP will come out of this smelling like roses.

It was political grandstanding - the law (already on the books) required BP to pay even before the “escrow account”
And the method they used to drill was approved by the very government that is now saying it wasn’t adequate.
Before the first piece of equipment is moved to a drilling site the permit process requires the company to describe in detail what size drill pipe they are going to use, how deep they are planning to go and how they intend to set the casing among other things.
Nothing in this process was a surprise to the government.
Now they act as though BP slipped the rig out there while no one was looking.
