I hate word problems.
(80 / 55) * 60 + 20 + 5 minutes, depending on traffic.
I worked out the problem for myself; then I got stopped at a light and there was a left turner- so that threw it off completely.
All I can do is wait to see what happens to Joey for being the only one who passes the test.Again.
I just took a stab and said 2 hours. Figured it would be close enough. But where do you start and finish the trip? If driving to the City – then as soon as you pass the “Welcome to ……” sign you have arrived in the City. Not necessarily at your chosen destination. That could take another half hour of travel. see – I always got to that point and then didn’t want to finish the problem.
Meh, as a math teacher I rarely see problems that hard anymore. If the speed is not 30 or 60, then the trip distance is in easily reducible fractions of the speed. But off the top of my head… it’s 1 hour plus 25/55 of an hour plus 25 minutes, so: 1hour, 50 minutes plus 5(5/11) minutes…. Total trip 1:52:16.45
