Some people can’t make it on their own. The vast majority can. Democrats are simply saying that those who can’t— and you may be one disease or car wreak away from becoming one of them—- are still people who deserve the respect and support of a country that contributes to the well being of its’ citizens. When someone says they want no help from the government, that’s fine. No one is legally required to accept it. But, I know of two cases where the most vocal advocates of the Republican position were quite relieved to have some help when they needed it. Amazingly, however they both adhere to their original Republican mantra, only adding that the are the exception to the rule— it’s those other guys who don’t deserve any help. No point in asking how you know which ones are the other guys, it simply ends the conversation.
