I agree that China’s policy on free expression of opinion is a very poor one. And one with which I personally disagree. But the NBA is a corporation and they are about revenue and income. And they do need to follow the law. Not the US law, but the law where they are at the time. If you really find that too hard to believe then I suggest you stop paying the NBA: Don’t watch the games, don’t buy the gear, do get together with your buddies and do something useful: Volunteer with youth roundball, maybe. And write the NBA a letter saying why you’re no longer a fan. They’ll laugh, but you’ll feel better.
