Just the original Yuletide…the year is coming to an end and it’s the start of a new one. Time for reflection of accomplishments (or lack thereof) and plans, plus some Bacchanalian celebration and some gift exchanging. All very pagan. And, don’t forget: Axial tilt is the reason for the season.
If I wanted to celebrate Christ’s birth anniversary, it sure wouldn’t be in December…read your gospels and consider when shepherds would be out all night.
