Surprised this didn’t happen sooner after the Brits’ lease expired.

The Taiping rebellion of 1850-64 was egged on by American missionaries because Hong Xiuquan thought he was Jesus Christ’s younger brother. The usual death toll cited is 20-30 million people. Danziger may pretend to be ignorant of the history, but you can bet your boots the Chinese remember what happened when the Americans were peddling democracy and methodism the last time.

Maybe after we helped get 30 million of them killed we ought to get out the China advice business.

I’m sorry to say it will take a few more world wars of near or total destruction to rid ourselves of communism and fascism and other demeaning forms of rule!

Talk about one cheap cartoonist. All he has to do is change the label and hair color for another day.

I don’t see this as China shooting themselves in the foot. Yes, they get criticism from outside forces when they put down those demanding a voice in government. And they don’t really care a whit about what foreign governments think.

The Chinese government is not being shaken by this at all. Anyone who thinks otherwise is full of wishful thinking.

    Why should China be careful?

The United States has told them officially that we do not care how many they kill.

Rather, we hope everything works out. If not, well, there’s always Thoughts and Prayers.

America used to be a force for democracy, but no longer. Trump has expressed admiration for authoritarian regimes. China has been the beneficiary of our abdication.

Remember when the US was an unrelenting force for liberty and democracy, rather than an opportunistic supporter of despotic regimes for expediency’s sake?

    .

    Yeah, me neither.

In a better world, this could be somewhat sort of realistic. In the world as it is, those protestors will move (if they possibly can) or be much reduced, possibly unto death. They are outnumbered by the cops alone, much less the army.

Shame most of y’all haven’t friends in China or Hong Kong. Aside from some of the signs and the [GOUSA] media coverage, the single biggest beef is about the cost of apartments. Inflation can do that to you.
