I’m glad Barack Obama made the right decision. Excellent use of American Taxpayer Money.
Where was the shrubster? Taking out a dictator (location known) that had nothing to do with 911 because the dictator wanted his daddy dead. What a waste of American Taxpayer Money.
Thanks fennec, I must remember to find these articles next time I see a street party somewhere, anywhere, and I read about someone callling them base, barbaric & uncivilised.
Although it is odd that I had not seen too many sociologists or psychologists giving these explanations whenever these scenes are shown elsewhere (I guess they do but they remain within trade periodicals so I must look harder).
I also have a hard time distinguishing patriotism from nationalism (what can I say, I had a bad childhood experience with both and I remain traumatised) but I shall try find out if there is a feeling of superiority contained within before condemning it.
On the UK satirical quiz show “Have I Got News For You,” one of the panellists mused on whether the crowd of drunks chanting “U-S-A” in Times Square were there for a special occasion or whether they were always there ….
fennec, interesting article. What concerns me today IS the difference between true “patriots”, and “nationalists”. Defending the flag, including seeing our warts and blemishes, and trying to make US BETTER- in many ways as we each are able- is patriotism. Accepting the mob mentality and waving the flag, whether right or wrong, and doing nothing to “improve the realm” is “nationalism”.
Ants within a colony don’t kill each other. But, it’s OK to kill any ant that lives outside the colony. In our society, humans call this ‘nationalism’.

To really support the troops you need to buy an SUV and stick those magnetic ribbons all over the back. *

This is what I’ve always been saying. If you want to support the troops, don’t stand behind them or in front of them… stand WITH them!
