Haiti was in seriously bad condition before the quake. They are in worse condition since, and will continue to need help for some time, not unlike the Tsunami survivors, nor those of Katrina.
Regardless of their intent, the group “escorting orphans” across the border to the DR were breaking the law. Though it would seem many of them thought they were within Haitian law, and that proper papers were filed and procedures followed, they were still breaking the law.
If, indeed, the majority of them were acting in ignorance, I do hope the judge is lenient.
Assuming the good intentions of the group’s leader(s), knowingly breaking laws that are common to almost all countries, I hope that same judge is just, and fair.
