In the decades after I left ’Nam, as the end of the movie “Platoon” stated (saw this years later, but it explained a lot) we survived for a reason, we had something to do. I spent over 40 years in service and helping people: fighting fires, search and rescue, ski patrol (22years), and in Law enforcement (8 years). It was that movie that made me realize WHY I needed to “pay it forward”. The folks I worked with, volunteered with, were just doing our jobs, never looked at ourselves as “heroes”, just viable citizens dedicated to what this country is supposed to stand for, and what patriotism means.
Being “anti-war”, but not pacifist when attacked, I’ve watched my country go downhill, and with Bonespurs, I’ve seen everything I devoted my life to threatened, or destroyed, and under constant attack. It isn’t about “politics”, it’s about real patriotism, and the HUMANITY required to stand up for the Constitution, rule of law, and simple decency, caring with love, not hate.
The folks who do these jobs don’t do it out of any “heroism” goal, they do it out of LOVE.
BTW: adrenaline is indeed a drug that makes folks react to danger, and watching my country attacked by cowards, liars, and fools, has been really hard on my system for the last couple years. It is time not to just watch these “heroes” do what’s right it’s time for all true patriots to step up and support them, by ridding us of those who blame, defame, or insult them.
