Post-holiday depression is kicking in early this year; it’s not even New Year’s Eve yet.

(Actually, I think it’s the lack of cookies that’s pushed Garfield over the edge!)

EDIT: I think this is the first time I saw Garfield hug Jon and cry at the same time :)

It’s not so peaceful at all the big retail stores the day after Christmas.

Here in Italy the Christmas season doesn’t officially end until 7 January. This because 26 December is Holiday again (Saint Stephen), then there is the expectation for New Year Eve and the First Day of the Year. And it’s not ended yet. On 6 January it’s Epiphany, and arrive the “Befana”, an old kind woman, that ride a broom but it’s not a mean witch. She takes the last sweets to all. After that, we wake up on 7 January, and Christmas time it’s really gone. In fact we say “Arriva l’Epifania e tutte le feste si porta via” that means “It arrive Epiphany and takes away all (Christmas) Holidays”. Sorry the rhyme gets lost, Hope my english was good enough. Happy New Year to All. :-)

Jusy: Thank you. I enjoy hearing about how Christmas and other Holidays are spent elsewhere. Your English is very good.

    Happy New Year!

Before anybody jumps on Clark Kent because of the old cliche that your average fruitcake can be carved into a serviceable bowling ball, let me tell you: a fresh, really well-made fruitcake is pure ambrosia. (Try ordering one from the Collin Street Bakery in Waxahachie, Texas – thank me later.)

Everyone knows the song “12 days Of Christmas”, right?

    Start with Christmas, 12/25; then Christmastide is: 1st day = 12/26 2nd day = 12/27 3rd day = 12/28 4th day = 12/29 5th day = 12/30 6th day = 12/31 7th day = 1/1 8th day = 1/2 9th day = 1/3 10th day = 1/4 11th day = 1/5 12th day = 1/6; and the season ends with Epiphany.

In the US, the Catholic Church has moved Epiphany to the second Sunday after Christmas, to simplify the calendar.

Meanwhile, Garfield can link in to Radio X T Z - Sixty Hours of Christmas runs through midnight tonight; and even then, we’ll gradually taper off between now and 1/6; 1/7 will be the first day without ANY Christmas music since 11/26/10…

    Enjoy!

Buone Feste, JusyCat! Che la Befana ti porti il desio del tuo cuore! :)

(Translation: Happy Holidays, JusyCat! May La Befana bring you the desire of your heart!)

Also, don’t forget the old Neapolitan tradition that you should try to do all of your favorite things on New Year’s Day; that way, you can keep doing them all year long. In Garfield’s case, that would be eating and sleeping!

I’m glad Garfield said that today is quiet and peaceful. It’s much nicer than hearing about how depressing and a letdown it is. It’s my birthday today and I’d like to hear some good things about it.

@JusyCat - my husband is from Spain and it’s similar there. The Three Kings (Reyes Magos) arrive on Jan 6 and that’s their big gift day. Which makes sense because that’s when they brought gifts to Jesus. My kids had it made one year when we celebrated Christmas in the US on Dec 25 and then went to Spain for New Years and celebrated again on Jan 6. I had to keep telling them that this was not typical (they were 3 and 5 years old).

Idaho “Garfield … you must be very easily bored.” That’s like saying Odie is not that bright LOL. It’s like saying the sky is blue. OF COURSE He’s easily bored, he has the attention span of a ADHD 8 year old, who just ate 5 pounds of jelly beans!

Reading these international traditions was interesting. Thanks for posting.

    And, Happy Birthday, lightenup!

Quiet and peaceful? Garfield has obviously never been to a mall the day after Christmas. It’s like a frenzy! The busyness is comparable to Black Friday.
