Funky: The following (well-written in my opinion) was posted on DailyInk regarding Les’ writer’s block:
Actually, a novel is written from the inside. A novel is the measure and beat of what the characters feel, how they interpret what people do, the realm of their thoughts. A screenplay, however, is written from the outside. The screenplay defines what is seen, and the audience sees what happens and draws conclusions from what they have seen, and how what they have seen makes them feel. There are rare athletes who can “go pro” in more than one sport, and there are rare writers who can handle both formats, but the key word is rare. The more personal the story is to you the harder it is to step outside and see it in a manner that makes a screenplay work.
