One year way back in the day (late ‘80s) I worked at Busch Gardens in Tampa while I was a college student. I was working in a BBQ restaurant, the Smokehouse, and was an assistant unit supervisor, so I opened and closed with my crew of 5 or 6 workers (all of us teens or early 20’s). I remember many quality checks of the bbq ribs and chicken (we never left work hungry) and then there was the beer,,,,,, My supervisor would say to me, “Hey that guy over their said our Budweiser is flat!”, I would say, let’s check and we would draw a pint to “test” it. We adjusted the keg and did another tasting. The next hour it was the Michelob which had issues. Fun job! They also gave us 2 cases of beer a month from the Tampa brewery onsite each month and we were part of a case study which was a prelude to Michelob Dark going out to the public as employees were given cases of it and simply asked their friends to sample it and do a questionnaire. A sweet job for a guy who was in his early 20’s in 1988/1989. Good times. I met my wife there as well at an after party as she worked in the retail shops in another section of the park. We have been married almost 30 years now with a daughter at FSU, go Noles! The pay was below average but the perks were decent and hours flexible. Nowadays, I doubt it is that much fun. Back then employees also got to go into the park free and could hit the “Hospitality House” for free beer and our fellow Busch staff members usually did not stop us at the 3 beer limit……
