Of course people were shorter back then. Our two tallest presidents were George Washington and Abe Lincoln.
They were also skinnier, far less sedentary activities. They actually did physical work, not everything was done for them.

Surprised that they’ve ever frequented a Cracker Barrel, in that there’s little stuff on the tables for them to ten-finger discount on….other than those triangular “egg-no-remus” peg puzzles……..
A better name for this comic strip would be “Middle America”.
