so, if that were an algebraic equation, it would be:
if X = the unknown amount of cupcakes left,
(2 × 12) + X = 30
24 + x = 30
x = 30-24
x = 6
sure, that’s fairly elementary, but since I haven’t done algebra in over 50 years, I’m surprised I remembered the process

And you do calculus auto-pilot in your head every time you slow down to keep from smacking that car ahead of you in traffic by figuring “closing speed”.
