On the TV series HOTEL there was an episode where a homeless fellow finds a newspaper telling that the woman he is the father of is getting married. He steals some decent clothes and shows up to attend anonymously. The supposed father of the woman thinks he is there to create a scene and threatens to break him if he destroys her happiness in any way.
The biological father explains, “You already destroyed me. I’m nothing.” He then tells him he has done a great job of raising their daughter.
He was there for the wedding. Afterward, he returns the stolen clothes, dons his old rags, and goes back to the nothingness which is now his home.
A girl threatened to sue me once in a trumped up charge.
“Go ahead and try. You can’t get a lawyer.”
“Yes, I can. My uncle is a lawyer!”
“Your uncle won’t take your case. They don’t go after people with nothing.”
“The next day she came on my school bus much calmer.”

She shook her head
“Because I’m broke, right?”
She nodded her head.
