Comparing the original Greek Olympics, with “celebrations” that included “sex games” that would definitely get them shut down in the U.S., with the “modern” Olympics, is silly. Yes, the athletes did have sponsors, but again, nothing compared to today.

The ideals of coming together to compete in sport, rather than war, IS indeed a wise alternative for “nation states”. Having known Olympians, including my brother who was selected, but who died before the games began, is why I find individual Americans getting hung up on “winning” and claiming the victory for themselves is “disturbing”.

Listening to the U.S. announcers “slam” every country with which we’ve had “differences” during the parade of nations was very “conservative”, as in closed minded to anything but dogma, and also, disturbing.

Yes, I"m very proud of our athletes, and that does include national pride, but I’m also aware that THEY did the hard work to get there, and yes, did have support to achieve it.

If Willard’s horse/tax deduction wins a gold medal, I wonder if he’ll have it bronzed. -

    The medal, I mean.
