Those who serve, that OTHER “1%” of the population. Freedom is not free. It is time for those who DID NOT SERVE, to pay their share, to provide proper care.

I still will stop, as my late Uncle is one of those that you mention…. as well as my ancestor, who fought to help create this wonderful Country of ours.

Providing proper care for veterans properly belongs in the military budget. It is not some sort of welfare or entitlement, but a responsibility of the Pentagon.

they go through Hell, and when they return from mercenary, illegal wars, they get bumper-stickers & ribbon magnets – “support our troops” – but not with money for mental & physical health concerns. what was that Mash lyric? something about suicide….

^Permanently and totally disabled, 1st Cavalry, Viet Nam 66-67. My son is out now on disability retirement, permanent, 13 years Navy, never set foot on a ship, was with those folks who do “interesting things they can’t talk about” for five years.

Yes, we “served”. It is time our nation served more than burgers on “holidays” and did something for ALL our veterans, and the families of those who gave the ultimate. Joe Biden, much-maligned by the right, gave an excellent, very personal, address to some of those survivors yesterday. He said it best to them: “The press is here so I probably shouldn’t say this, but YOU are important!”. He then went on to tell them of his experience losing his family members, and barely mentioned HIS son’s service in Iraq.

So, on Memorial Day, and EVERY DAY, think of our folks who defend our nation, and when they come home, don’t say “thanks for your service” because 99% don’t have a CLUE what that means; just say “Welcome HOME!”
