A funny thing happened to me at work some years ago, back when telephone modems were still in wide use. I would connect to bulletin boards, looking for computer utilities and (cough), games. I had to use one of our pool of phone numbers, so I would go around and tell everyone that I was using one of the lines, because the modem didn’t light up the light on their phones. But just at the moment I was dialing a number, someone forgot and picked up that line, sending a lot of noise with the modem’s dialing sequence. Next thing I heard was someone from a San Francisco Pizza joint answering the phone!
Our cell phone broke down, and when we went to get a new one, we shocked the store guy when I said we just wanted one we could just say “Hello” on…………..none of the frills…….
